throwdown 2003
The long awaited LAN party finally took place this past weekend. I hoped to have some photos to post, but I completely forgot my digital camera. Luckily one of the players was thinking, and I should have a hold of some pictures soon that will find their way onto the official site. Although sleep was only available at a premium, I think a good time was had by all. I spent a lot of time kicking everyone's ass in Unreal Tournament, but MOH:AA was definitely the order of the day. As much as the sniper punks pissed me off with their "hiding in dark corners" and "killing with one shot" it was a good team matchup. Note to EA: I think more than four objective-based maps would be appreciated in Pacific Assault. I also had the chance to show off the Call of Duty demo, which seemed to impress some people. Perhaps the full version will be making an appearance at the next LAN later this year. The oddity of the event was a five-hour Rise of Nations marathon played by two men with attention spans of steel. I do believe we went out and had a 7-course meal and they were still busy pummeling the AI with nuclear missiles when we got back.
I'd like to take a second and thank beto for organizing the event. The gamespace was a bit crowded (and completely decimated the Toronto Fire Code), but it worked out pretty nicely. And of course big thanks to all the players that showed up, it was great to just hang out and game with everyone for a couple of days, especially those of us that haven't seen each other since graduating.
Writing this post was a completely cathartic experience; I think I have staved off the effects of PLD (post LAN depression) for now.
